Introduction

From the User Provisioning page, the Workspace administrator role can be managed from "Azure AD" or "Workspace 365". And as a consequence, the steps you need to take to make someone else administrator depend on which option is selected.

Requirements

From the User provisioning page, the Workspace administrator role can be managed from "Azure AD" or "Workspace 365".

When the admin role is managed from "Azure AD":

  • There must be a Global administrator present in Microsoft Entra ID (previously called Azure AD) that is being to synced to Workspace. Users assigned with the Global Administrator role (IsAdminFlag) in Microsoft Entra ID are administrator in Workspace 365 (and will become automatically admin when synced with SCIM or Azure AD synctool).

  • When you change the permission "Manage admin role from Azure AD" to "Workspace 365", Workspace no longer checks for the 'IsAdminFlag' in Microsoft Entra ID. This means only active users marked as administrator in Workspace can perform administrative tasks in Workspace 365.

When the admin role is managed from "Workspace 365":

  • Active users marked as admin in Workspace are allowed to perform administrative tasks in Workspace 365.

When using our SCIM synchronization solution, the Workspace administrator role is always managed from Workspace 365.
