Hi,
As previously announced in Heads-up: on-premise Exchange deprecation for Calendar app, we will switch from the EWS API to the Microsoft Graph API for our Exchange integration. EWS will eventually be deprecated, and Graph offers more possibilities for further development. This transition will happen with the release of Workspace 365 v4.10, which will be deployed on the evening of June 6th 2024.
Because the Graph API capabilities do not entirely match those of the EWS API, the functionality of the Calendar tile will change.
The new Calendar tile
With EWS, admins could configure a Calendar tile to display a shared calendar by default. This will no longer be possible with Graph. Instead, users will be able to set the default calendar displayed by a Calendar tile themselves, via a dropdown on the tile. This dropdown will show all calendars the user has access to. Full Access permissions is no longer required, as we will retrieve the necessary data from the user's mailbox.
By default, each Calendar tile will display the user's default calendar, which is usually the personal calendar. When the user changes the calendar displayed, that selection is saved to the database on user level for that specific Calendar tile, and the selected calendar becomes the new default until the user selects a different calendar for that specific tile again.
Action required
Unfortunately, we cannot convert existing Calendar tile configurations to user level settings as described above. Meaning that for existing workspace environments, all Calendar tiles will display users' default calendars after the change, and they will have to manually change the configuration for each tile as desired.
Future development
We understand this change may be frustrating to workspace admins, as the default calendar displayed by a Calendar tile now becomes a user level setting instead of something the admin can control.
However, the switch to Graph will make the Calendar app better in the long run. As mentioned we now retrieve data from the user's mailbox, resulting in an experience that is more in line with what users see in the Outlook Web App (OWA). We believe this switch is essential for improving the user experience, and the further development of the Calendar app.
